Our ministry prepares supper at the Yolo Wayfarer Christian Mission on the fourth Saturday and Sunday of every month. Currently, we have over twenty volunteers who are part of four teams (two Saturday teams and two Sunday teams) that make one lunch every other month. Team members meet at the Fourth & Hope at around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday and begin preparing the meal which is served from 5:00-5:30. After the meals, clients staying at the mission clean up ,so we are usually done at 5:30. Members of our ministry have a variety of talents from the team leaders who plan the meal, to helping prepare the meal to helping set up and serve. Any help is always appreciated.
The Yolo Wayfarer Christian Mission (also known as the Wayfarer Center) is located on the southeast corner of Fourth and North streets in Woodland in a large, relatively new builiding. This new facility has a commercial kitchen and dining room with seating for over 60, two large dormitories-one for men and one for women, as well as laundry and shower facilities.
In addition to making supper on the fourth Saturdays and Sundays of each month, we also have an annual Benefit Lasagna Dinner to raise money to allow us to by food and supplies to supplement those provided by the Wayfarer Center. All of the teams in the ministry help out with this event. Our benefit dinenr allows us to raise the money that we use to buy additional food and supplies that we use to supplement what is available at the mission.
